Compagnie Congolaise des Tabacs training document, 1951.

Collection comprises a company salesman's training document entitled "Life and work of a Salesman in the Belgian Congo." Compangie Congolaise des Tabacs handled the ordering and distribution of these supplies to depots, but Sedec S.C.R.L., the Congo division of the Lever Group, controlled routine day-to-day operations. The document contains discussions of the difficulties of travel, brands, prices, commissions, sales, monopolies, marketing practices, and competition. There is also a job description including qualifications, benefits, and notes on the work environment. Collection holds a preservation copy. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History and the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture.
